Nerja — What to see and do from Hostal Marissal
Nerja is a coastal town located at the eastern end of the province of Malaga, a 45-minute drive from Malaga Airport. It is protected by the Sierra de Almijara, which gives it an especially mild microclimate all year round. It is known as the jewel of the Costa del Sol for its fine sandy coves, its well-preserved historic center, and its quiet atmosphere compared to other coastal destinations in the province.
The Balcony of Europe is a pedestrian viewpoint located at the end of the main street of the historic center, a 2-minute walk from the hostel. It offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the coastal cliffs. It is the town's central meeting point and the most photographed place in Nerja.
El Salón Beach is a 3-minute walk away. It is a quiet beach, sheltered by the cliffs below the Balcony of Europe, with clean waters and low swell, suitable for swimming. Calahonda Beach, also a few minutes away, is smaller but very sheltered from the wind. Burriana Beach, the largest in Nerja with over 800 meters of sand, is about a 15-minute walk or 5-minute drive away. It has restaurants, beach bars, and rental services for sunbeds and water sports equipment.
The Nerja Caves are one of the most visited attractions in southern Spain. They are located 3 km from the hostel, accessible by car (5 minutes) or by bus from the stop on Calle Pintada. They house the largest stalagmitic column in the world, 32 meters high. It is recommended to book the entrance in advance in high season.
From Malaga Airport (AGP): 45 minutes by car via the A-7. There is a direct bus service operated by ALSA with a stop in the center of Nerja. The hostel offers a transfer service from the airport (check availability and price at reception or in the experiences section of the website).
